A Yoga Day Retreat for Parents and Parents-to-Be

Redefining Conscious Parenting

Through time-honoured yogic principles and practices, you will be guided on a journey to:

  • Identify aspects of parenting where you feel separation and move towards connection

  • Bring self-compassion into your matrescence journey

  • Radicalise your understanding of and relationship with rest

  • Explore what conscious parenting can look like for you and your family

Who is this retreat suitable for?

Anyone who is currently pregnant or is a parent.

It’s important to know:

  • you don’t need to ‘do yoga’, or have ever practised yoga

  • you don’t need to be fit or flexible

… there will be yoga postures included (as well as many of the other facets of yoga), but there are accessible options for every-body.

This would be perfect for you if:

  • you are currently pregnant and wanting to explore your values and approach to motherhood/parenthood

  • you are seeking deeper connection with yourself in this new version of you that you are discovering as you enter motherhood/parenthood

  • you are seeking to connect with other like-minded people that are interested in conscious pregnancy and parenting

  • you are feeling burnt out, undervalued, overwhelmed, frustrated or disillusioned in motherhood/parenthood

  • you are finding yourself second guessing, lacking trust or feeling ‘not good enough’ as a parent or pregnant person

  • your mind is always racing and you feel that you don’t have time for self-care, to process your experiences of parenthood or to make changes in your life that you have been wanting to implement

  • you feel stuck in the trenches of parenting, or you have been putting off taking some time for yourself outside of your daily parenting duties

  • you are looking to bring a fresh spark or a different perspective into your role as a parent.

  • you enjoy yoga or are interested to learn more about it and how it can be relevant to parenthood

What will I learn on this retreat?

During this retreat, you will experience yoga practices across the breadth of the yogic tradition:

  • exploration of your values and deepest truths as a person and parent/parent-to-be

  • exploration of your current and desired states of being

  • postural exercises

  • breathwork

  • mindfulness and concentration practices

  • meditation and journalling

  • mudra & mantra

  • explorations of sound & metaphysics

  • other harmonising practices

We will explore conscious parenting through the Yama and Niyama - yoga’s comprehensive, supportive and inclusive approach to defining your personal values:

  • fostering compassion for self and others (ahimsa)

  • celebrating the journey and experience of stepping into the role of mother/parent (matrescence)

  • Your roles and identities and how these may have shifted on your matrescence journey (satya)

  • physical, mental and energetic wellbeing as a parent or pregnant person through energy management (bramacharya)

  • reclaiming your relationship with rest (tapas)

  • exploring your attachments and where you can release control for more abundance and spaciousness as a parent (aparigraha)

  • how parenting IS yoga: a practice of devotion (ishvara pranidhana)

It is our goal that after this retreat, you will feel:

  • Less tension in your body

  • More space and ease in your breath

  • Less compulsion to do and more capacity to be in the present moment

  • A shift in your experience of time and the present moment

  • More connected: to Self, to your family and to your community (or the community you wish to build)

  • More connected and aligned to your purpose and passion as a parent/parent-to-be

  • More connected to your innate intuition and wisdom

  • More able to celebrate the journey of motherhood/parenthood

What has yoga got to do with being Pregnant or being a Parent?

The word yoga comes from the sanskrit word ‘yuj’ which means ‘to yolk’ or ‘to unite’.

The purpose of yoga is to move from separation towards connection.

The time of pregnancy and transitioning into parenthood is a time when the way we connect and who we are connecting with is transforming rapidly. Relationships with your unborn or newborn child/ren, a partner or co-parent, your extended family and friends and your care-providers is evolving. This can feel unsettling, exhausting and even confusing at times.

What we see in the modern parenting world today are so many issues that create separation. Yoga can be an antidote to separation simply in its very purpose of creating connection. Re-connecting with self is where we start as we seek to redefine what it means to parent consciously.

The missing considerations include energetic wellbeing, fostering parenting intuition and celebrating the journey and experience of stepping into the role of mother/parent.
